Breadcrumbs in my Bible

Galatians 6:3-4

While sitting with my sweet hubby for morning devotions and prayer, he noticed that my table Bible has all kinds of notes tucked here and there. I told him, “I bet you are wondering why I have so many notes and papers in this Bible”. He responded; “No, I think they are breadcrumbs, you know to show you where you’ve been in case you want to go back”. Wow! That was a wonderful insight. Yes, I do review the notes from time to time, and sometimes I wonder why it was so important at the time to make a note. Still, my hubby believes that I know what I’m doing, so I will be happy to let that continue (smile).

Today’s wondering through God’s Word brought me to Galatians 6:3-4, and as you read it, you might grin and understand how it connects to what I just shared with you about my “Bible Breadcrumbs”; “If anyone thinks they are something when they are not, they deceive themselves. Each one should test their own actions. Then they can take pride in themselves alone without comparing themselves to someone else, for each one should carry their own load”.

You see, I want to be the follower of Christ who consistently and constantly connects with His Word, but I am not nearly consistent and constant enough, let’s say I just get sidetracked. I would imagine some of you understand that as well. Still, the Lord never grows weary in gently reminding his children to pay attention, stay in the moment, listen and we will hear what He is trying to tell us. Sometimes it takes reviewing your Bible Breadcrumbs, do you have any? If you don’t, you might try it and rejoice when you are led back to a moment with Him that helped you hear and see Him more clearly. Caution – Always assess where you are in your faith journey faithfully and honestly, never compare yourself to someone else, you are you and you are not them, you can find joy in being who you are.

A simple chorus comes to mind as I close this meditation today; “I Will Serve Thee”; “I will serve Thee because I love Thee; You have given life to me. I was nothing before You found me; You have given life to me. Heartaches, broken pieces, ruined lives are why You died on Calv’ry. Your touch was what I longed for; You have given life to me” (William and Gloria Gaither, 1969).

AMEN and Pray on!
